The strategic definitions in Horizon 2020 and in the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation are oriented towards the challenges that our society demands. In regional initiatives, the competencies of administrations make it easier to highlight the importance of the proximity criterion.
Regional RIS3 aims to boost the growth potential of each region by identifying competitive advantages, and a greater degree of alignment between scientific, technical and innovation capacities and productive capacities. The Spanish Strategy must address the need to articulate this process within a common framework, in order to avoid fragmentation that limits the achievement of synergies and defines complementarities. The regional RIS3 will contribute to provide the Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation System with internal coherence -articulation- and to facilitate its insertion in the European Research Area and to increase the impact of public Research and Innovation and European Cohesion Policies.
